Welcome to the home of the Beneficiaries and Executors Index. It is the only index of its kind to cover the years 1700 - 2011.

  • Are you the beneficiary of a Will? Are you looking for the contents of a Will?
  • Perhaps your are looking for an Unclaimed Will?
  • Perhaps you are looking to see if someone died Intestate without leaving a Will and think they have an Unclaimed Estate?
  • Do you think you are entitled to money, property or a legacy left to you by a relative?
  • Do you think that you or a relative has been mentioned in a Will, but nobody has contacted you about your legacy?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions then a search through our Beneficiaries Index might help you.

What is it?

It is an Index that lists the Beneficiaries and Executors named in the Wills of individuals who have died during the past 300 years; it also lists the names of individuals who died without leaving a Will and the names of the people that administered their estate.

It has been compiled from Probate Records, that is Wills that have required a Grant of Probate and the Administrations of persons who have died Intestate without leaving a Will.

The testator (the individual who left the Will) may have named Beneficiaries and Executors who are entitled to property, money or valuables from their Estate, the Index lists these Beneficiaries and Executors. It is not a complete index, but part of an ongoing project; if your name is not included in the index, it does not mean that you are not a Beneficiary of someone's Will.

More information about how to use the index with tips on searching can be found in Beneficiaries Index FAQ in the Members' Area.

Coverage

The index covers Beneficiaries and Executors named in Wills that have been granted probate in England and Wales. The earliest entry in the Index dates from 1700 and the latest is 2011.

What information is in the Beneficiaries Index?

The index is arranged by the name of the Beneficiary or Executor mentioned in a Will or Administration and includes:

  • Name of Beneficiary or Executor
  • Name of deceased who left Will
  • Date of deceased's death
  • Where deceased lived
  • Whether the document is a Will or Administration
  • For privacy reasons the index does not list the names of other people mentioned in the Will all together in one database record. If there are other people you are looking for you will need to search for them separately.
  • The index does not list the nature or details of each individual legacy - this is simply not viable as legacies come in all shapes and forms.
